Smoked Chicken Wrap Recipe

0
A broken in half chicken wrap sits on butcher paper with a side of chips above the broken wrap.

Our Smoked Chicken Wrap Recipe will have you looking forward to lunchtime all morning long. This simple chicken mix with plenty of seasoning, spring mix, and tomatoes coats the palate in flavor. Plus, it’s always cute to wrap this meal up in butcher’s paper and leave a little love note to whoever you’re making lunch for (yes this includes yourself!).

How to Fold a Wrap

Achieving the perfect tortilla wrap only takes a simple folding technique. Begin by laying your tortilla flat and adding your filling. Fold the bottom of the tortilla over the filling, then fold in the sides to create a rectangular shape. Finally, tightly roll the tortilla from the bottom up, tucking in the sides as you go. For extra security, you can use a toothpick to secure the seam.

While we turn to easy freezer food in times of stress, this simple Pizza Hot Pockets recipe gives you fresh take on this frozen food favorite. It combines the convenience of a hot pocket with the homemade taste of pizza topped with mushrooms, spinach, and pepperoni. You can even have your own family pizza-making party with everyone’s favorite ingredients spread out like a smorgasbord. An open tamale sits on a table with the filling sitting in a square on the banana leaf accompanied by chips and wrapped tamales.

Everyone could use an adventurous lunch of tamales to take you outside of the normal boring salad or wrap. Packed with flavor and easy to prepare, these tamales are perfect for lunch meal prep ahead of the week or a satisfying, quick weeknight dinner. This recipe combines tender chicken, a flavorful masa dough, and the traditional steaming method for a delicious and authentic taste experience.

How to Eat Tamales

To savor your homemade creation, carefully unwrap the banana leaf casing to reveal the masa and filling. Tamales can be enjoyed hot or cold, making them a versatile meal. For an elevated experience, consider pairing your tamales with a variety of toppings such as salsa, guacamole, sour cream, or crumbled cheese. You can unwrap and eat the filling handheld or use a fork to slowly eat away at the filling.

Lunchtime Tamales Recipe

Tamales Ingredients

  • 12 banana leaves (5×5 inch squares)
  • Banana leaf strips (5 inches long by 1/2 inch thick)

For the dough:

  • 2 cups masa harina
  • 1.5 cups chicken stock
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter

For the filling:

  • 8 oz cooked, shredded chicken breast
  • 3 oz mayonnaise
  • 0.5 oz canned, smashed chipotle peppers
  • 1 oz salsa

Tamales Instructions

  1. Prepare the steamer: Fill the Instant Pot with water and insert the steaming tray.
  2. Make the dough: In a stand mixer, cream together the butter and 2 tablespoons of chicken stock until fluffy (about 3-5 minutes). Combine masa harina, baking powder, salt, and cumin in a separate bowl. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the filling: In a bowl, combine shredded chicken, mayonnaise, chipotle peppers, and salsa. Mix well.
  4. Assemble the tamales: Lay out banana leaves. Place a spoonful of masa dough in the center of each leaf. Add a portion of the chicken filling. Fold the sides of the banana leaf to enclose the filling, then fold the top over to create a tamale. Tie closed with a banana leaf strip.
  5. Steam the tamales: Place the tamales in the Instant Pot steamer, slightly overlapping. Secure the lid and steam for 25 minutes.
  6. Serve: Carefully remove the tamales from the steamer and open your tamale!

That’s right, we’re taking the lunchroom sandwich staple and turning it into a treat you can’t resist. They do say everything is better in dessert form, so give this a try at home!

Who Invented the Peanut Butter and Jelly (PB&J) Sandwich?

While the exact origins of the beloved peanut butter and jelly sandwich remain a mystery, written history points to Julia Davis Chandler as the first recorder of this combination. In 1901, her recipe appeared in the Boston Cooking School Magazine, marking the earliest known reference to the sandwich. While Chandler may not have been the absolute first to enjoy this delightful pairing, her published recipe solidified the peanut butter and jelly sandwich’s place in culinary history.

  • Shape and rise: Place slices in a greased 4-inch springform pan, spiral them upwards. Cover and let rise for 10 minutes.

Overnight Oats Parfait Recipe

0
A cup of overnight oats in parfait form sits on a picnic table with oats, fresh strawberries, blackberries, and whipped cream on top.

Start your day with a burst of flavor and nutrition thanks to our Overnight Oats Parfait recipe! This is the perfect grab-and-go breakfast that’s both delicious and good for you. Packed with protein, fiber, and antioxidants, it’s a satisfying meal that will keep you energized throughout the morning. Customize it with your favorite toppings as a personalized breakfast experience for you and the whole family.

How Long are Overnight Oats Good For?

Overnight oats can typically last in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days if they’re placed in a clean container with an airtight lid. For optimal freshness and flavor, it’s best to consume them within this timeframe. Always prioritize safety and discard any oats that exhibit signs of spoilage, such as mold, an off odor, or a change in texture. Some ingredients, like those delicious but fragile fresh raspberries we all love, may also spoil quicker than others, so keep an eye on that.

What is Puff Pastry?

Puff pastry is a flaky, buttery dough known for its delicate layers. It’s created through a complex process of folding and rolling dough and butter together multiple times, resulting in hundreds of thin layers. As the pastry bakes, the heat causes the butter to melt and steam, separating the layers and creating the characteristic puff and flaky texture. Sure, you can make it at home…but store-bought puff pastry makes many recipes like this Ham, Bacon, and Cheddar Breakfast Pastry Puff fast and easy.

Healthy Food Delivery Options

0
A person in a jacket hands off a paper food delivery bag to another person's hand.

Just because you’re choosing to take advantage of food delivery services like DoorDash doesn’t mean you can’t eat healthy! When we think about getting take out food for ourselves or our children living in dorms, we think about the greasiness of fast food burgers and fries. But, that isn’t all that’s available on food delivery services. There are actually a number of national chains out there supporting healthier eating options with the convenience of door to door delivery. So the next time you want to treat yourself or a loved one, look out for these brands rather than resorting to the usual McDonald’s or Wendy’s.

Healthy Food Delivery Options

Honeygrow

Nourishing stir-frys and salads take over the menu at Honeygrow. While you can choose one of their special recipes, you can also create your own bowl to fulfill your needs. Maybe you’re vegetarian and would prefer a different type of protein. Or you just simply don’t like one of the ingredients in a preset recipe. It’s not a problem, Honeygrow can easily put substitutions in place.

Clean Juice

Juices, smoothies, salads, toasts, sandwiches, Clean Juice truly has it all. Start your day with their Avocado Toast and a smoothie. Or, send your child lunch for the day with one of their packed Acai Bowls. They even have a list of dietary restrictions on their site that allow you to choose a menu item that suits your needs.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe

In the past few years it seems like Tropical Smoothie Cafes are popping up everywhere and that’s not a bad thing if you’re looking to splurge on DoorDash. While it’s obvious this business is known for their smoothies, they actually carry a number of wraps, flatbreads, salads, bowls, and breakfast options. Plus you can always check out their dessert options for a much needed and healthy sweet treat.

Panera Bread

While Panera Bread may sound like an obvious option on this list, it’s easy to get caught up in their not-so-healthy options like the Charged Lemonade full of caffeine. So, when looking for food at Panera Bread, we recommend sticking to their salads and vegetarian options. But, if you are going to go for something like the Spicy Fiesta Chicken Sandwich, stick with an apple or fruit cup as your side.

Choolaah

Craving something international? Choolaah provides you with Indian, natural eats like Cauliflower and Chickpea Wraps, Bowls with tofu, and much more. You can even customize each bowl or wrap with a protein such as chicken, lamb, salmon, paneer, tofu, roasted veggies, or veggie croquettes. You could even try vegetarian and gluten free Malai ice-cream lightly infused with imported green cardamom.

Noodles and Company

Who doesn’t love pasta? Noodles and Company specializes in all things noodles including mac and cheese, pasta, stir-fry, and even their house made zoodles (zucchini noodles). The key at this restaurant is to keep an eye out for their fresher ingredient pasta that include loads of veggies and light sauce options. We suggest the Zucchini Pesto with Grilled Chicken for a burst of greens and to assist your daily intake of protein.

Sweetgreen

Plant-forward is the motto of national chain Sweetgreen. Menu items include salads, protein bowls, and protein plates but each covers a wide variety of ingredients. For instance, the Shroomami bowl includes Roasted tofu, warm portobello mix, cucumbers, basil, shredded cabbage, roasted almonds, wild rice, shredded kale, and a miso sesame ginger dressing. Each store even carries Health-Ade Kombucha to ensure a nutritious meal all around.

Subway (or other sandwich shops)

Much like Panera Bread, Subway and other sandwich shops are another place where you can get a bit carried away by the options available. It’s important to remember to choose a whole grain bread or tortilla for your sandwich and then to skip dressings with high-fat contents. Maybe instead of a big sub, you choose to make a salad or bowl instead using the same ingredients you would get otherwise.
