Aperol Spritz, A Cocktail for Leo

Leos (July 23 to August 22) are fiery creatures filled with passion, fueled with self-confidence, and unafraid of being the center of attention. Could there really be any other drink to represent the lions of the zodiac than the Aperol Spritz? Leo is already daydreaming about their starring role in a stunning film about life and love in the Italian countryside. Similarly, the spritz is no stranger to the spotlight. It’s the star of every aperitivo hour, its flame-orange color drawing longing glances from sippers of all persuasions. The spritz looks especially fine in the hand of a Leo, arriving fashionably late on their Vespa, hair tantalizingly wind-blown, and an Italian silk scarf fluttering dramatically at their neck. Well hello, gorgeous!

About the Aperol Spritz

The Aperol Spritz, one of 2024’s most popular cocktails, has its origins in Italy, particularly in the Veneto region. The Barbieri brothers in Padua created Aperol in 1919, but it didn’t gain widespread popularity until the 1950s. By the 2000s, the Aperol Spritz began to gain international fame, becoming a symbol of leisurely outdoor gatherings and summer festivities. Today, it’s celebrated worldwide as embodying the Italian lifestyle of enjoying good food, company, and relaxation.

Aperol Spritz, A Cocktail for Leo

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz Aperol
  • 3 oz prosecco
  • 1 oz soda water
  • .25 lemon juice
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • Orange Wheel
  • 1 by 1 ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Build all ingredients in a wine glass, top with ice and lightly agitate with a bar spoon to combine.
  2. Garnish with an orange wheel.
