Ingredients

- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 ½ cups lard
- 3 eggs
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- ½ tbsp star anise
- 1 tbsp red wine
For the cinnamon sugar dust:
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a stand mixer, cream the sugar and lard together.
- Add the eggs slowly, followed by the dry ingredients, and finally the wine.
- Roll the dough out to ¼ inch. Cut with a 1½ inch fluted circle cutter. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and bake for about 10-12 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and let them sit on the pan. Dust with the cinnamon-sugar mixture while still warm.
