To the excitement of Pittsburgh sports fans, and local food fans, the Pittsburgh Pirates announced today that our very own Rivendale Farms has become the Official Farm and Dairy supplier of fresh produce, eggs, and dairy products for PNC Park. Rivendale Farms’ products will be integrated into concessions for fans, the Club’s charitable activities, and the rebranding of the suite level of PNC Park as the “Rivendale Suite Level.”
In the past, The Pirates have incorporated the produce and dairy from Rivendale into team meals, even using the farm’s chocolate milk as a post-game recovery drink for the players. Now, they’re looking forward to sharing these local ingredients with their loyal fans. Among the most enticing additions to the concessions will be soft-serve and hard-packed ice cream produced from the milk of Rivendale’s more than 150 purebred Jersey dairy cows.
Pittsburghers Alba and Thomas Tull established Rivendale Farms in 2015. Dedicated to natural, sustainable farming combined with innovative techniques and technology, Rivendale focuses on providing the land and the animals with the best possible care and attention – allowing them to provide us with the best possible products. “We understand the importance and privilege of creating healthy, delicious food options that are easily accessible to help our community thrive,” stated Christine Grady, General Manager of Rivendale Farms. “Rivendale takes great pride in providing locally grown produce and dairy products for the Pittsburgh Pirates and now expanding it to fans across the park.”
Sharing in the excitement of strengthening bonds with fellow Pittsburgh-based organizations as well as extending a tasty team tradition to Pirates fans, Pirates President Frank Coonelly says, “We are proud to team up with Rivendale and to be able to now offer their fresh locally-grown products to our players, fans, and staff as we work to continually improve the game day experience at PNC Park. Rivendale shares our value of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle and we will work together through Pirates Charities on many community initiatives that do just that.”
Rivendale Farms is also working with Pirates Charities to develop a Suite Patio Rooftop Garden to be revealed later this season, just in time for the alfresco dining as the city defrosts. In an effort of reuse and reduction of waste, the garden will be fertilized with the composted leftovers of the concessions. Rivendale will sponsor Pirates Charities events promoting a happy and healthy lifestyle as well – for example, the Pirates Charities Golf Outing, Sporting Clays event, and 5k/10k events.
